As chief film critic for The Hollywood Reporter, I reviewed hundreds of films from my home base in Los Angeles. I traveled to such major international film festivals as Sundance, Cannes, Berlin, Busan (Korea), Montreal, Mill Valley, Telluride and Toronto. These festival reviews also analyzed box-office potential of all films in various markets overseas and in North America.
I oversaw the expansion of the Reporter’s international reviewing staff, and coordinated the reviews for the various show dailies around the world including Cannes, Berlin, Busan and Toronto. Some of the festival juries I served on included the Hawaii Int’l Film Festival, Athens Int’l Film Festival, Sonoma Valley Int’l Film Festival and the new Napa Valley Int’l Film Festival.
Prior to this, as a senior film reporter, I reported on the American film industry covering various studios, agencies, management firms, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, exhibition, animation and marketing as well as industry trends.
I am now launching a career in academia. Along with the Sneak Preview series I host annually for UCLA Extension, I teach several film studies courses at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. I also lectured at the Shanghai Film & Television Academy in China in March 2013. And now I’ve launched honeycuttshollywood.com to continue to offer my take on the ever-changing world of film.
